Support Universal Oneness Celebration with Dr. Mohan Bhagwat

I unequivocally support Universal Oneness Celebration in New York, NY, on Aug 29, 2026.  This is a confident expression of Hindu dharma in the public square, rooted in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the civilizational understanding that the world is one family.

I contend that this event is not a sectarian exercise or a political rally. It seeks to create space for Hindu institutions, families, youth, and community leaders to gather around values that have shaped one of the world’s oldest living civilizations: oneness, duty, self-restraint, plural coexistence, and service. Dr. Mohan Bhagwat, leader of the largest Hindu organization addressing this event, brings a unique global perspective to this message of universalism for a world clamoring for peace and harmony. That is a public good, not a public danger. That matters.

When Hindus organize at scale, hostile activists do not ask what the event is. They demand that Hindu public life itself be put on trial. It is an attempt to criminalize Hindu civilizational events, stigmatize Hindu public leadership, and recast India’s majority tradition as suspect in the court of American opinion.  New Yorkers are being asked to view a public message of dignity, coexistence, and service through a prewritten smear script. The attempt to stigmatize this event is not principled scrutiny. It is anti-Hindu gatekeeping. A lawful Hindu gathering is being treated as a civic threat because it is unapologetically Hindu, publicly visible, and civilizationally confident.

The proper test is legality, transparency, and equal treatment. It is not whether activists approve of Hindu networks supporting a Hindu event. No church, synagogue, mosque, or other faith community would be told that broad internal support is itself evidence of menace. Hindus should not be singled out for that treatment in New York. That double standard is the whole story. The event represents something larger than one evening at Madison Square Garden. It is a visible affirmation that American Hindus do not need permission to speak in their own voice.

This matters now because the pressure campaign aims to provoke public condemnation, intimidate venues, and distort the media before the event. Officials have the power not to join a sectarian pile-on. Editors have the power not to print accusations as fact. That is the narrow, grantable, urgent ask. To New York public officials: affirm the right of American Hindus to hold the Universal Oneness Celebration without political intimidation, defamatory framing, or selective suspicion.

We therefore ask:

1. Publicly affirm that American Hindus have the same right as every other community to host a lawful public event with invited religious or civilizational leaders.

2. Refuse calls to pressure Madison Square Garden or any public authority to cancel, obstruct, or stigmatize the Universal Oneness Celebration.

3. Ensure that any official or media statement about the event clearly distinguishes verified fact from activist allegation.

4. Provide equal space for Hindu voices, including a right of reply when coverage portrays Hindu organizations or Hindu beliefs as inherently extremist.
